In the Spirit

We are given many instructions by God that  involve the expression 'in the spirit '. 

For example, we are instructed by God to worship Him in the spirit, to pray in the spirit,  to speak in the spirit, sing in the spirit and to walk in the spirit.

Apostle John also said that he was in the spirit in the day of the LORD  and he heard the voice of God.

Revelation 1:10 

_I was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, as of a trumpet,_

So being in the spirit is the best posture for hearing the voice of God and receiving divine guidance generally. 

But what does it mean to be in the spirit or speak in the spirit.  We can find the answer to this from our text for today.

1 Corinthians 14:2

 _For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but... IN THE SPIRIT HE SPEAKS mysteries._

When a person speaks in tongues, he is speaking in the spirit. Therefore, speaking in the spirit is speaking in tongues .

Hence, one sure way to be in the spirit is by speaking in the spirit  - which is speaking in tongues.

We become more conscious of spiritual things and the spiritual realm as we speak in tongues more. 

In addition our understanding of spiritual things appreciates greatly as we speak in tongues more.
