"We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto YE DO WELL THAT YE TAKE HEED, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts."
Our text for today says
"...ye do well that ye take heed..."
To take heed means to pay attention. Therefore, you do well that you pay attention.
We do well in life by paying attention.
Paying attention to what ?
First by paying attention to the written Word of God. God exhorts us repeatedly in the Bible to pay attention to His Word. For example:
Proverbs 4:20 - 22
My son, GIVE ATTENTION TO MY WORDS; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they [are] life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
One reason why it is very important to pay attention to the Word of God is because anything you give attention to will give you direction. If you give the Word of God your attention, the Word of God will give you direction
The message translation of Proverbs 4 : 20 helps us understand that paying attention to the Word of God is positioning ourselves to receive divine direction.
Proverbs 4:20 (Message)
Dear friend, listen well to my words; tune your ears to my voice.
As we pay attention to the Word of God, we are listening to His Word and also tuning our ears to hear God's voice.
The price we pay to receive direction from God is paying attention to His Word.
If we fail to pay attention to the Word of God, we will surely fail in life. Whatever distracts you from the Word of God will empower you to fail in life.
Shalom
