This passage of scriptures begins with a prophecy from Jesus saying: "However when the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth...,"
Has the Spirit of truth come? Yes. The Holy Spirit was given to us after Jesus was glorified ( John 7 : 37 - 39).
And we receive the Holy Spirit in the new birth and in the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
So, our text scripture is no longer a promise nor a prophecy. It has been fulfilled. In our time, in the Church age, our text now reads as follows :
John 16:13 - 14
Now that , the Spirit of truth, HAS COME, HE GUIDES US into all truth; for He DOES not speak on His own [authority,] but whatever He hears He SPEAKS; and He TELLS US things to come. He GLORIFIES JESUS, for He TAKES of what BELONGS TO JESUS and DECLARES [it] to US

We can readily see that our dispensation, the dispensation of grace, or the Church age is a dispensation of divine guidance. In this dispensation, there is an abundance of divine guidance. We are not lacking in direction because our dispensation is a dispensation of divine guidance.
In the Old Testament, only the prophets, priests, and kings had the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon them.
But in the New Testament, we all have received the Holy Spirit, and we have received the anointing of the Holy Spirit within us. Therefore, we all have unlimited access to divine guidance.
1 Corinthians 2:12
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
We can expect, and we should expect to be led by the Spirit of God always.
God speaks to us always. He leads us always. He guides us always. Therefore, we should always expect divine direction. Expect to be led by the Spirit of God always. And your expectations shall not be cut off.
